Caramel
This is a Caramel Carpet Python – an intermediately inherited color morph that reduces dark melanin pigmentation, shifting the palette toward warm brown, bronze, and gold tones. Caramels listed without a subspecies qualifier (such as "pure Coastal") are animals whose lineage includes more than one Morelia spilota subspecies.
The Caramel mutation originated in Coastal Carpet Pythons (M. s. mcdowelli). Hatchlings appear relatively dark and develop their characteristic warm golden tones from the second year onward. The pattern structure remains intact – Caramel modifies color, not pattern.
Caramel is a versatile building block for multi-morph projects and combines well with Axanthic, Jaguar, Zebra, and Granite. It is not allelic with Hypo – both reduce melanin through different mechanisms.
