Sunglow
Sunglow is the combination of the intermediately inherited Hypo and the recessive Albino. Hypo reduces melanin production. Albino (tyrosinase-negative, from M. s. variegata) eliminates all remaining melanin. The double mechanism produces an extremely bright, warm-toned animal – vivid yellow to orange with minimal pattern contrast. Sunglow is among the most visually intense phenotypes in the Morelia spilota complex.
Hypo originates from Coastal (M. s. mcdowelli), Albino from Darwin (M. s. variegata). This is a documented subspecies cross.
Sunglow = Hypo + Albino exclusively. Caramel + Albino is a different combination – not a Sunglow, despite visual similarities. Hypo is intermediately inherited (one copy = visual); Albino is recessive (two copies required).
