Ghost Jaguar (Paradox)
This is a Ghost Jaguar displaying paradox coloration – sporadic patches of pigment that should not be present based on the animal's genotype. Paradox markings appear as isolated spots or blotches of unexpected color against the typically pale, desaturated Ghost Jaguar phenotype. The mechanism behind paradox pigmentation is not fully understood; it is thought to involve somatic mutations in individual cell lines during development.
The underlying genetics are standard Ghost Jaguar: Hypo (intermediately inherited) reduces melanin, Axanthic (recessive) suppresses yellow, and Jaguar (intermediately inherited) fragments the pattern. All three mutations originate from Coastal Carpet Pythons (M. s. mcdowelli). Without a "pure Coastal" label, this animal has a mixed subspecies background.
Paradox is not heritable and cannot be selectively bred for. As with all Jaguar combinations, mild head wobble may be present – a neurological trait associated with the Jaguar mutation that does not affect the animal's quality of life.
