Hypo het Axanthic
This animal is a visual Hypo carrying the Axanthic allele in heterozygous form. Visually, it presents as a standard Hypo – reduced melanin with warm tones dominating. The Axanthic het status is not visible and is determined through documented parentage.
Hypo is intermediately inherited and originates from Coastal (M. s. mcdowelli). Axanthic is recessive. Without a "pure Coastal" label, this animal has a mixed subspecies background.
The hidden Axanthic allele is the key to producing Ghost offspring (Hypo + Axanthic). Paired with another het Axanthic or visual Axanthic, Ghost production becomes possible – the characteristic pale, smoky, desaturated phenotype where Hypo's warming and Axanthic's cooling effects combine. Ghost = Hypo + Axanthic exclusively.
