Description:
This Caramel het Axanthic is visually a standard Caramel – warm bronze and gold tones with reduced dark pigmentation. The Axanthic allele is carried in heterozygous form and is not visible. Het status is determined through documented parentage.
Caramel is intermediately inherited and originates from Coastal Carpet Pythons (M. s. mcdowelli). The hidden Axanthic allele is the key to producing Caramel Axanthic offspring – a combination where Axanthic suppresses yellow while Caramel reduces melanin, resulting in cool, desaturated caramel tones. Caramel Axanthic is not a Ghost (Ghost = Hypo + Axanthic exclusively).
As with all Caramels without a "pure Coastal" label, this animal has a mixed subspecies background.
