Ghost (Paradox)
This is a Ghost (Hypo + Axanthic) displaying paradox coloration – sporadic patches of pigment that should not be present based on the animal's genotype. Paradox markings appear as isolated spots or blotches of unexpected color (often yellow or warm-toned) against the typically pale, desaturated Ghost phenotype. The mechanism behind paradox pigmentation is not fully understood; it is thought to involve somatic mutations in individual cell lines during development.
The underlying genetics are standard Ghost: Hypo (intermediately inherited) reduces melanin, Axanthic (recessive) suppresses yellow. Without a "pure Coastal" label, this animal has a mixed subspecies background.
Paradox is not heritable and cannot be selectively bred for. Each paradox animal is unique in its markings. Ghost = Hypo + Axanthic exclusively.
