Ghost
The Ghost is the combination of two mutations: the intermediately inherited Hypo and the recessive Axanthic. Hypo reduces melanin production, resulting in lighter, warmer tones. Axanthic suppresses yellow pigmentation (xanthophores). These opposing effects – one warming, one cooling – interact to produce the characteristic "ghostly" appearance: a pale, washed-out, smoky animal with desaturated tones and reduced contrast.
Both Hypo and the Coastal Axanthic line originate from M. s. mcdowelli. Without a "pure Coastal" label, this animal has a mixed subspecies background.
Ghost is exclusively the combination of Hypo + Axanthic. Caramel + Axanthic is a different combination with a different genetic basis – it is not a Ghost.
