This Hypo Caramel Zebra het Axanthic is visually a Hypo Caramel Zebra – pale golden-cream banding from the triple interaction of two melanin-reducing mutations and Zebra patterning. In addition, this animal carries the Axanthic allele in heterozygous form. Het status is not visible and is determined through documented parentage.
Hypo and Caramel originate from Coastal (M. s. mcdowelli), Zebra from Jungle (M. s. cheynei) – a documented multi-subspecies cross. All visible mutations are intermediately inherited; Axanthic is recessive.
The hidden Axanthic allele adds breeding value for producing Hypo Caramel Axanthic Zebra offspring – a four-morph combination where Axanthic removes remaining yellow tones from the already pale Hypo Caramel Zebra palette. Caramel Axanthic is not a Ghost (Ghost = Hypo + Axanthic exclusively).
