Ghost Zebra
The Ghost Zebra combines three mutations: the intermediately inherited Hypo and Zebra, and the recessive Axanthic. Hypo reduces melanin, Axanthic suppresses yellow, and Zebra from Jungle Carpet Pythons (M. s. cheynei) adds its characteristic irregular transverse banding. The Ghost base (pale, desaturated) is structured by the Zebra banding pattern – soft grey and silver bands rather than the bold black-and-yellow of a standard Zebra.
Hypo and Axanthic originate from Coastal (M. s. mcdowelli), Zebra from Jungle (M. s. cheynei). This is a documented multi-subspecies cross.
Ghost = Hypo + Axanthic exclusively. This is a complex combination requiring both recessive Axanthic and intermediary Hypo alongside the Zebra pattern gene – a multi-generation breeding achievement.
